THE CONSTRUCTION OF 4 SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC PLANTS

  • Sector: Energy

  • Type: Public

  • Project manager: Ministry of Energy

  • Estimated cost (USD): USD 104 million

  • Estimated cost (FCFA): FCFA 52 billion

The project for the construction of four solar photovoltaic plants, each with a capacity of 10 MW, in the Maradi and Dosso, regions, aims to satisfy the growing power demand in Niger and encourage regional development by exploiting abundant solar resources in the areas concerned. The implementation of this project will enable the increase of national coverage, improve power supply quality in the areas concerned and consolidate socio-economic development in Niger.

Benefits

  • Promotion of renewable energy sources to better satisfy strong demand for electric power;

  • Economic profitability justified by the existence of high-voltage lines to ensure efficient sale of electricity to the areas concerned;

  • Rationalisation of production costs; sites located in huge sunny areas, enabling the plants to run at full capacity all year round.
